Companion Planting with Zucchini
Companions (do well together)- Zucchini grows well with radish, corn and pumpkin.
- They do not mind other plants around them.
- Grow beans with zucchini, it'll help to fix nitrogen.
- Grow mint and nasturtiums with zucchini, they will keep the insects at bay.
Tips on Harvesting Organic Zucchini
- Zucchini has small fleshy cucumber like fruits.
- After the zucchini start to flower, the fruits will appear in a few days.
- Once they have started to flower, check them regularly so you can harvest them when they are between eight and ten centimetres long.
- The flowers can be eaten either fresh in salad, stuffed or used in soups and sautés
- Let the name "baby" not fool you, they can grow up to 35-50 cm long if you don't watch them.
- Then you can call them Giant Baby Marrows.
- If you go away for a few days, ask a friend to pick them for you, otherwise you will have loads of giant baby marrow. Even though, the giant ones are usable to a point.
- When they grow up to about 16 inches long they become fibrous and inedible
Recipe to Juice Organic Zucchini
Body Cleansing Juice
- 1 medium zucchini
- 4 medium carrots
- Wash all vegetables.
- Cut tops and ends off the carrots and zucchini.
- Depending on the size of the opening of the juicer, prepare to cut the vegetables to fit.
- Mix juiced zucchini and carrots together.
- Sip don't gulp.
- This combination of vegetables can be used as a cleanser for the blood.
*juicing can be done everyday but not in large quantity.
