  • Spinach does well in cool weather.
  • Spinach grows from seed which you can plant in situ.
  • Start planting seeds in early spring.
  • The seed take a week or two to germinate.
  • Every two weeks, plant new seeds to ensure that you have this yummy vegetable available fresh from the garden all the time.
  • Make sure the soil is well fed with compost.
  • Mulch the plants well.
  • Spinach grows well in full sun or partial shade.
  • Thin the seedling if they are too crowded.
  • Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged. A good watering once a week will be sufficient once the plants are established.

Recipe to Cook Organic Spinach

Spinach frittata
  • 1 onion
  • Oil for frying
  • Sprinkle of sesame seed
  • 2-4 eggs
  • 1-2 potatoes
  • Big handful of fresh spinach
  • 2-3 slices of ham (optional)
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Fresh oregano / basil
  • Salt and pepper

  • Fry the chopped onion in oil.
  • Add a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
  • Skin the potatoes and chop them into small pieces and fry with the onion till tender.
  • Beat the eggs in a bowl.
  • Add the spinach, garlic, ham and herbs when the potatoes soften.
  • Pour the eggs over the mixture and cover with a lid.
  • When the eggs are cooked through, turn off the heat.
  • Serve with fresh salad or homemade bread.
